County Executive Mark Hackel stopped in briefly to greet our membership.
William Sowerby chaired the Meeting. Members introduced themselves.
Newly elected officials were recognized.

MTA DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE UPDATE:
Pauline Bennett discussed three key proposed legislations being finalized in Lansing that could have a significant impact on Townships. They are: FOIA, Roads and Personal Property Taxes. Many of these changes will be determined by 12/31/12.
Pauline encouraged members to attend the annual MTA Conference in Detroit on January 21 to 25, 2013. (Please see below attachments: General Conference Information, Detailed Conference Schedule and Conference Registration Forms.)
A suggestion was made to try to provide a meeting room at the conference to allow representatives from our MTA Macomb Chapter to network.
Pauline agreed to research and find out if any locations may be available.
Follow up information will be sent to the membership next week.
Don presented an overview of resources available to Townships. They encourage Township officials to utilize tools and resources offered. Additionally, local leaders may refer local business owners to the County for help in developing and establishing their business in Macomb County.

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development has been working with County Executive Mark Hackel to promote Macomb County. They have focused on Business Development for:
- Retention & Expansion
- Business Attraction.
The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development offers a variety of programs to assist in Community Development. Examples cited:
- Coordinate Outreach & Special Events
- Biz Clips
- Macomb Film Office
- Macomb Magazine
- Macomb Business Awards
- Maintain 3 websites
- Provide Graphic Support
A new area being explored is promoting Lake St. Clair and its surrounding assets. The Bass Pro Elite Series Final Fishing Tournament will be hosted in Macomb County next year. It is estimated it will bring in significant revenue into our County.

The power point presentation listed four successful small businesses that have utilized the department’s Business Development resources.
The businesses recognized were:
- Achatz Pies (2008)
- ASI Instruments (2009)
- Steve’s Back Room (2010)
- Dolce Panetteria Foods (2011).

Two Board Seats Vacant:
Chairperson Sowerby informed the membership that our Board consists of five members. The recent election resulted in two seats becoming vacant. Sowerby asked if any members were interested in filling these seats to send their name to Deborah Obrecht. Her email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org. The only restriction is that only one member from a community can sit on the Board. At this time, Bruce, Clinton and Shelby Township are holding offices. All five Board seats are all up for reappointment in April 2013. At our next meeting, members will vote to fill these two open positions.
The next luncheon meeting will be held on Friday, January 11th, 2013 @ 11:30 a.m. at the Macomb Intermediate School District.
State Representative District #33 – Ken Goike
Representative Goike discussed the importance of being engaged with MTA. MTA is very influential on proposed legislation that impacts our Townships. He expects the PPT to be approved by January 2013. He stated more information on this topic will be forthcoming this next week. He expressed concern on finalizing the replacement monies since many communities in Macomb County will be impacted by this legislation.
Open Floor Discussion:
Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon shared with the membership that in two years, five proposed casinos with liquor licenses will be placed on the ballot. This will include the casino previously proposed on Hall Road & I-94 in Clinton Twp.
This will bring in $12-$15 million in gaming taxes to Macomb County and 1,500 full time jobs.
Bruce Township Supervisor, Richard Cory shared that he is a newly elected official. Richard found the meeting and networking to be very valuable and he is looking forward to participating in this organization.
Macomb MTA Board Member, Deborah Obrech asked if members would please send updated email addresses for newly elected officials in their township. This will allow her to update her email database. She thanked members and associates for attending and participating in the Chapter.
